Memorial Day

We just set out for the parade and then to the cemetery, but as we were passing Wesleyan I heard a badump, badump noise and mentioned to Matthew that we just might have a flat tire.  Sho' nuff that is what it was.  We were all just going to stay there while he put on the spare tire, but then Archie mentioned that he needed to poop.  So I walked home with the boys and Matthew went to see if there are any places open today that can take care of the tire.  Fun stuff!!!  But it is giving me a chance to write in my blog and I don't even have the baby today, yay!!!  He is really sweet and all, but it is tiring taking care of a newborn.  I heard the saddest story about a woman in California who had three daughters ages 2, 1, and 2 months and she killed them all last Friday.  They said they found the mom naked, in a daze, covered with blood.  My first thought is that she probably was just wanting to take a shower, but they were screaming at her and she just lost it!  I just feel so bad for her!!! And her husband!  And her whole family.  Oh my goodness.  It can be hard to take care of babies.  And moms need support.  In the past, people were usually living with their parents, aunts, uncles, etc.  Lots of people who could help hold babies or cook or clean, but now people are so separated and alone.  We ended up being able to get to the parade and over to the cemetery to go on the trolley with Miss Jen Jen.

We always enjoy romping around cemeteries!

It has been a busy week.  I had the annual mother's day tea last Wednesday.  I have moved it to a park since there are so many people now.  I put table cloths and flowers on two long tables and people proceeded to sit their children at the pretty tables and then the women were all sitting at un-table-clothed tables.  That was the only buggy thing.  Everything else was lovely -- the weather, the food, the people.  So I guess it is worth all of the headache.  There was also the Bent School carnival.  The kids had fun, but we didn't stay very long.  I missed Ali Harvey's graduation party.  It was on Friday and I didn't remember until Saturday afternoon.  NCHS had their graduation on Saturday and BHS will have it next Sunday.  Charles is doing a graduation party with Sam at his grandparents house on Lake Bloomington.  I don't know how many people want to go clear out there, but we will see.  It should still be fun.

I've been working a lot in the garden.  I spent tons of money, lots of time and effort, and then I just have to hope for the best!  It hasn't rained for a long time so I have to walk around hosing everything down.  Rain dance, rain dance!

I'm reading an interesting book about Energy and people's auras.  I haven't gotten very far so we'll see how it develops :)

All Wright Weekend (their pun, not mine)

I had to give a talk in church yesterday giving an update on Ella's mission.  It went well.  Everyone said they liked it.  I just told the story about the Gomez family and another one that she sent me last week -- both about getting to know people, seeing them as God sees them, etc.  I then added a bit from Pres. Holland's talk at the last conference that was really great.  Then I had to teach Sunday School.  It wasn't my week.  I team teach and it was her week, but then she texted me late Saturday night saying she was sick so I had to prepare a lesson Sunday morning.  It was about modern day prophets so we played a game where I presented a challenge they might have and then they had to look through the topics of the Conference talks in the May Ensign and find a talk that would answer or solve their problem.  Then I had been asked to present in Relief Society about how I make studying the Book of Mormon interesting day by day.  Hmm.  Not my forte necessarily, but I do try and I have tried lots of different things over the years so that was okay.  I was really tired by the end of church, though.  And I had just started my period so that is always a day when I just want to sit around.

I was also tired because Matthew and I had gone up to Chicago on Saturday to tour some Frank Lloyd Wright houses.  It was so fun!  But a super long day.  We saw 8 houses in 8 hours and most of that time was waiting in line out on the sidewalk.  We got to know some interesting people, though.  I guess most people that are interested in those kinds of things are pretty mellow and interesting.  We were talking about how there were more women than men, but still a lot of men, but they weren't the type who liked watching football, for example.  Also, we were probably some of the youngest people there.  We met two different couples who had come all the way from Canada to be there!  I thought we were going out of our way!  The houses were great -- all serene and sparse.  Lots of gray or mossy green velvet couches and Japanese-y walls.  The waiting was painful, but I guess we might want to go again sometime.  I took some pictures of the outsides of the houses, but we bought a book that includes some pictures of the interiors.

Yesterday was Charles' seminary graduation, but he absolutely refused to go!  I looked at him for a while, but couldn't really imagine picking him up and putting him in the car myself, so I eventually just let it go.  All week long we were planning on going and we were invited to the Thayn's for dinner so I changed the time so that we could leave soon enough to make it to Peoria.  He was going on and on about how we were making it so that he couldn't finish homework, etc.  but then when we got home he asked if he could go to Ellen's!  No, you cannot.  I thought you had so much to do!  He didn't do any homework as far as I know, but did manage to get in some online Chess games, so that made it worth it.  I kept telling him that it would be nice to honor him for making it through 4 years of seminary!  But he didn't care.  We'll see if we get him to his High School graduation or not.

Not much going on.  Mondays are my day to write to Ella, I have class, I walked with Clare this morning, I'm watching the baby today, I planted about 15 flowers in the front, I need to vacuum and clean the bathroom, did a few loads of laundry since I wasn't here all weekend, I guess that's it.

Happy Birthday Ibby!

Happy, Happy, Birthday to my lovely Isabela Phoebe! There is no debate in the family that she wins MVK (most valuable kid) status because she is as pleasant as the day is long!

I love this picture of her from Barcelona.
We went out to dinner at our favorite little Chinese place to celebrate.

dance and skype

The girls are dancing in the dining room today because I suddenly sold the dining room table (since yesterday) and now it is empty.  I had been halfheartedly trying to sell it for a few months and then someone wanted it today and came and took it away.  I thought it was pretty, but it was a little too precious for what we use it for.  It would sag on the side while we were doing crafts and come apart in the middle while we were trying to keep the Settlers board together.  But I had decided to just live with it and now I have to find another table!  I might have wanted to get a white table, but it wouldn't look very good with the sideboards so I guess I'll just get wood color.

Did I mention that Lucy and I might be going to Guatemala in July?  Too bad we don't speak Spanish.

The girls had their dance recital on Saturday.  I didn't get one pic of Lucy in her costume!  Sometimes I am so lame!  But I got one of Ibby and some of the girls outside.

We were able to skype with  Ella yesterday for Mother's Day so that was great!

Prom!

This week was nice.  It is getting warmer and the grass is getting greener.

Lucy made the colorguard team.  She just found out today and is very excited.  Also, Charles found out today that he got a job at the library.  He has been looking for one since November!  So we are so glad.  It is not full time, though, so he really should find another job, too.

Prom was on Saturday so that was a big to do.  We went to take pictures and then later I went to help with After Prom.  It was crazy!  Ella tried to describe it to me, but I didn't have the scope in my head.  I helped with the prize corner and it was busy the whole time.  I didn't get home until 3:30 a.m. and Charles didn't come home until 11 a.m.  It was annoying.  He missed church and so did my entire Sunday School class!  Emma Harvey was the only one there out of 12 kids!  So I just took her to Gospel Doctrine with me.  I didn't want to waste my amazing lesson on one kid, right?  Ellen was Prom Queen and her cousin, Maureen, crowned her since she was the queen last year.  Quite the family!

The dining room is pink as of today!!!

I'm tired.

I need to go outside because Archie is crying.

Some prom pics!
